August was a good month.
The Electrum Archive
I’ve spent most of August finishing the first issue of my zine series The Electrum Archive. On August 30 the full zine was released and the response has been really nice. I’ve worked on this project since November last year and I’m so happy with its positive reception! Hearing folks describe it as a game and setting that seems to be made for them really warms my heart.
I crashed for a bit in the days after, since I spend so much energy on getting it ready for release. So I have spent the last week playing video games to recharge and unwind and I’ve read all of the nice comments and reviews people have left on the game’s Itch page.
Spellburns and Battlescars
I was asked to illustrate the cover of Spellburns and Battlescars by Matheus Henrique Morais and Luís Fernando Anizello.
DURF Jam
Technically not in August but I announced the dates for the second DURF Jam! The jam will run from October 11 to November 11. Last year I had a lot of fun sparring with folks about their entries and the vibes in the CULT OF THE LIZARD KING Discord were great, so I’m very much looking forward to this second edition of the jam.
Odds and Ends
I had a lot of fun creating illustrations for a Gamma World-inspired game Tanner Yea is working on:
I put together a Magic: the Gathering Battlebox to play with my partner. We’re both very busy people so having this as a more low-key alternative to our Cube that is, sadly, gathering a lot of dust lately. If you’re curious you can check out the card list here.
I’ve recently repurposed a Raspberry Pi 4 I had laying around and made it into a Retropie system allowing me to emulate a bunch of old consoles. If you have any good retro game suggestions I’d love to hear them :)
That’s it for August!
Stay safe and I’ll talk to you again next month!
