December and January Roundup

emielboven.substack.com

Hey friends!

I spent most of December in bed with the flu or trying to enjoy the holidays, so I thought I’d combine December and January for this newsletter :)

The Electrum Archive

The biggest thing I’ve been working on over the last two months is the Kickstarter for The Electrum Archive - Issue 02 which is live right now!

This second zine expands the world of Orn by detailing the City of Titan Port. It provides three adventures to play in and outside the city, a procedure for downtime between expeditions, and much more!

I’ve spent most of these last two months writing drafts for the various sections of the zine and prepping mockups for the Kickstarter page.

I can’t wait to continue working on this because I think it will be an absolute banger!

You can check out the Kickstarter here :) The first issue will also be available during the campaign, so this is your chance to pick it up if you missed the first print run!

Here is some of the art I made for it last month:

Free RPG Art Library!

I made a lil’ mushroom person for the free art library!

Quantum Ogre

I made a blog and it’s called Quantum Ogre! I’ve been wanting to start a blog for a while now to have a place to dump my thoughts on RPG related things. So I finally did it! In my first post, I talk a bit about the things I think are important in the type of old school dungeoncrawl-style games I like to play.

Errant

I’ve started a new campaign with my weekly group, and we’ve started playing Errant, which is superb.

The setting we use is a simple fantasy sandbox I’ve through together as an excuse to try some of the many OSR modules I’ve got lying around. Right now, the players are exploring the Hole in the Oak and have yet to take their steps into the wider region around it.

Here is the quick map I sketched while prepping the game:

I’ve had a lot of fun stocking random travel encounter tables and putting together a list of rumors about the dungeons hidden in the region. I might write a post about it in more detail on my blog after the campaign has progressed a little :)

Odds and Ends

  • As some of you might remember from my newsletter a few months ago, I’ve been playing a trading card game called Flesh and Blood. It’s a lot of fun, but since I’ve only started a few months ago, I’m still terrible at it. However, since the community is very welcoming, I signed up for a local tournament in Amsterdam. Long story short: I got absolutely destroyed. I ended up second to last, but I had a lot of fun playing games all Sunday and meeting new people!

  • I’ve been playing a bunch of Darkest Dungeon lately and it has been a great experience. It really captures the OSR-style of prepping for an expedition and pushing your luck, delving deeper into dungeons.

Talk to you all again next month!

I'm running an Errant one-shot for my FLGS next month with another Necrotic Gnome module. It looks like a neat system and I'm excited to try it out. Unfortunately, as a one-shot we probably won't get to take advantage of all the downtime stuff.
