The Electrum Archive Art
After having spend months just writing for the second issue of The Electrum Archive, I finally had the opportunity to make some new illustrations for it! Enjoy these city location illustrations of Titan Port:
A big part of why I finally had time to do more art for TEA is the fact that my friend Ava Islam (who you might know as the author of Errant, an amazing RPG I talked about in these newsletters before) has become a co-author. That’s right, instead of only helping out with editing, she’s now also helping write the TEA zines going forward. I cannot be more happy about being able to share this project with her and I am excited to see what we can create together :)
Speaking of Errant, a brand-new Errant adventure by Nick LS Whelan, called Sanctimonious Slimes vs. Expired Epicures, will be funding on Kickstarter soon! After having read the adventure, I cannot do anything else but heartily recommend you check it out. Nick has created a really fun dungeon inhabited by factions and NPCs who will be long remembered by any players who come across them.
Tomb Robbers of the Crystal Frontier
Another thing I worked on this past month was the Errant conversion of Gus L’s adventure Tomb Robbers of the Crystal Frontier! The Old-Schools Essentials version of the adventure has been lauded by people throughout the OSR/NSR, and I feel honored to have been asked to help out with laying out the Errant conversion.
You can get both the OSE and Errant version on DriveThruRPG.
DURF Jam 2023
The DURF Jam is back for its third year and will start on the 14th of October! Join us for a full month of brewing adventures, monsters and magical items for the DURF RPG :) Like the last two years, the CULT OF THE LIZARD KING Discord will be the place to hang out with other jammers and bounce around ideas!
DURF Expanded
Last month I talked a bit about the new “expanded” version of DURF. Over the last month I have uploaded two new draft versions on my Patreon for people who want to get early access to it while I’m tinkering with it. Each of these added new content to the draft and fleshed out the system.
Since last month, DURF Expanded has been expanded with the following:
A simple DURF-style hexcrawl procedure (including rules for waterborne travel)
A good-sized bestiary
Guidance on the handling of traps, locked doors, and lockpicking
Rules for drowning, fire and poison
Rules for silver weapons
A new d66 magical blunder table
90+ spells
So if you would like to see this developed further and support me while I work on it, check out my Patreon :)
Odds and Ends
My friend Marcia B. has at last released Fantastic Medieval Campaigns, her cleaned up version of the original 1974 ruleset we know as Dungeons & Dragons. I’ve been following her work on this project for the past two years (and even got the chance to contribute some illustrations), and I’m incredibly excited to get my hands on a physical copy of it.
The Between Two Cairns podcast by Yochai Gal and Brad Kerr had a great episode where they reviewed RPG settings, and it had a wonderful section about The Electrum Archive!
I’ve enjoyed reading the Underworld Adventurer newsletter by Nick Kuntz. After having listened to the interview with Nick on the fantastic Into the Megadungeon podcast, it was really fun to read through Nick’s newsletter and blog by the same name to get some more context about his campaign.
I recorded an episode for the Not DnD podcast last week about The Electrum Archive. If all goes as planned it will be released in the first week of November.
The gold ENNIE award medal I got as contributor to Barkeep on the Borderlands finally arrived!
That’s all for now, thank you for reading!
Talk soon!
